UKTS Route Builders Challenge for RailWorks
The challenge was simply the brainchild of Geoff Potter, known as AcornComputer on the forums. His idea was to encourage people to use the easy to use route building
facilities within Railworks. His challenge was simply put:
-
To encourage the building of complete routes, the ideal route in this challenge will have a user created route template, dedicated route loading screen and route description. If you still want to take part in the challenge but do not want to go into this detail, then this should not deter you and there is no reason why you cannot create a new route using the RailWorks option on the opening route selection page.
The bare route, loading screen and route description can be created and prepared prior to the start of the challenge but you must not start building until the challenge starts. This will allow new builders time to work out how the source folder and developer folders work before the event starts.
-
You can only use assets that came with RailWorks or that have been made available to everyone since. i.e. The route must load up completely in another copy of RailWorks without the need to obtain third party assets.
-
The route must contain a path where a loco can be driven from one end to the other without stopping for at least 4 miles (6.5 km).
-
The terrain must be undulating so that track will have gradients in places. No perfectly flat routes please.
- There must be at least -
- One yard (Where rolling stock is maintained, fuelled and stored)
- Three stations
- Three sidings (Either single lines or more complex as you wish)
- One turntable (a challenge in itself!)
- At least some working signalling
- One simple scenario to show that the route works
- A set of markers for jumping to chosen locations
- Platform and other markers placed where required
-
The route can be located anywhere in the World
-
The route must have a name that you will use in your UKTS thread title so that people can follow your progress.
The time limit for this challenge seemed incredibly short at the time, just ONE WEEK.
The prizes were as follows:
The first prize was a complete set of all DLC available from RS.com.
Just Trains are offering a copy of the soon to be released Newcastle to York Modern add-on, something that I think we are all very much looking forward to.
UKTS are offering subscriptions
The winners of this challenge, announced on December 17th, showed an incredible ability. If these routes had taken months to create I think the community would have still been impressed, but achieving it in a week was something incredible.
First Place:
Please note that Port Road has been updated a lot since this release, and is now available as a piece of FREE DLC directly from Steam, you are better off getting that much newer version than this one!
