Ohio Steel - Dover Divsion
by Rich Garber
For All Aboard!
My fourth release for Railworks centers around steel production in Ohio. This first part of a two part series of the rail line which runs from Dover to Massillon focuses on Dover, OH and three of its branchlines. It's like three routes in one. There is the Dover to Stone Creek branchline (a truncated single track with passing sidings run from Dover to Cambridge, OH), Dover to Uhrichsville branchline (mostly doubletracked with some single track main) and the Dover branchline which services Dover Steel Mill. Many large industries populate this area such as the New Philadelphia Finishing Mill, Altizer's Aluminum Recycling Factory, Granny's Grain Mill, Moose Island Quarry and many more. Dover Yard is a large yard where the three branchlines converge and comes complete with servicing facilities and wye and turntable. The Dover Division route also features seasonal textures and ground textures for summer, fall and winter as well as traffic on the roads, smoking smokestacks at the mills, newly added ground textures and more. To make your experience complete there are 15 standard scenarios plus 3 freeroam scenarios to not only familiarize yourself with the route but to experience what it was like to service the steel industry by rail. The Ohio Steel package includes all this and a 16 page manual complete with schematics by Don Hughes. The manual is designed to be easy on the ink when printing.
In the coming months Ohio Steel will expand the route northware to include the mainline run up to Massillon. Home to Republics Massillion Steel Mill this mill is simply huge. While now it is a vacant lot, in its heyday Massillon featured a large Open Hearth furnance surrounded by many Finishing Mills. Railroads and steel for decades worked together side by side. Here's your opportunity to relive the experience.
Announcements for this extension will be coming in the months ahead. Meanwhile Ohio Steel - Dover Division is available today! Priced to fit today's tight budget! $21 USD. Available through All Aboard, Steam (Nov 12th) and FS Pilot Shop (soon). Average price is $21 USD
