Description : Race Day Special - An activity for Thames Mersey V4.2 Its been a while since I wrote a series of activities for Thames Mersey. However back in November, to answer a forum question, I dug the route out again and, once again, it has inspired me to write some activities. This activity follows a similar pattern to the others, a long run, some very fast 100mph running, lot of traffic to overtake to maintain your traffic slots, a fair amount of slow and caution running with some signal stops. It includes a little bit of shunting in the middle. Its a snowy April Grand National day and your task is to take an excursion special from Euston to Aintree. Calling at Watford Junction, Rugby, Atherstone (to pick up Lord Atherstone and his racehorse), Stafford, Crewe and Aintree. Bad weather today has caused the cancellation of your planned refuelling run and you have only just enough coal to complete the run. Water is also very limited, but there are plenty of troughs along the way to pick up more supplies. You will have to drive as economically as possible to make your coal last. Traffic is very heavy today and on multiple running line you will have to run fast to overtake slower services. When the lines narrow you may be held up until they are looped to let you pass. This activity uses just one piece of stock not on the DVD. The LMS Horsebox by Ian MacMillan UKTS file 19465.
