The Talyllyn Route was the first attempt at recreating Welsh Narrow Gauge in MSTS. The route as such is prehaps not as refined as some of the other routes avaliable, although a version 2 is coming soon and will include photo texturing. It was built to complement Kevin Martin's x2 scale Talyllyn rolling stock, again a first in MSTS, and is a fine example of the prototype. The line as shown is highly accurate, using x2 scale DEM data to create the Afon Fathew, the valley through which the Talyllyn Railway runs. The stations show accurate representations of the real things, and it is easy to see why so many people visit the real line each year. The route is set in preservation times, although does not include the latest developments to Tywyn Wharf station, the MSTS route pre-dating them! However the route shows the line as it would have been any time between the 1970's and the late 1990's. Well worth the download or purchase on CD.

The Talyllyn Railway was preserved in 1951, becoming the first preserved railway in the world. It was also one of the first to be run by a volunteer movement, led by L.T.C.Rolt. Today the line boasts an impressive array of 2ft 3" gauge steam locomotives, all represented in MSTS, and is possibly the only line to retain its two original locomotives, Talyllyn and Dolgoch and all of its original passenger rolling stock.
