Before you start, make sure that all six default routes are installed, if they are not then this route will not install successfully. The six default routes are contained in folders called: EUROPE1, EUROPE2, USA1, USA2, JAPAN1 and JAPAN2. It is also recommended that you use the latest Winzip (http://www.winzip.com) or compatible to extract these files - the built in decompressor in Windows may not cope well! Ensure you have the following:
Once XTracks is installed (make sure you have the latest version 3.17) and just before you start with the route itself you should
then install a new tsection.dat file just to make sure you've got the latest version installed.
First, let's get the main route files downloaded:
Once downloaded, you should have the following files in your download folder:
UKTS_14213_nbnrpt01.zip Extract each of the files in to a different temporary folder (perhaps a subfolder), in this folder you should now have (amongst other things such as jpg's etc): Northrail.zip Read through the installation document now - but follow the rest of these instructions to complete the installation of the route. Later come back and read the NORTHRAIL.DOC where Neville has provided a lot of information about the route including screenshots, maps and background, a very interesting read. You can extract the route by double clicking on Northrail.zip and extracting it to your ROUTES folder, if your Train Sim is in the default location you will find this in C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES. Once extracted, you're nearly there. Navigate to the route folder, again the default for this would be C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\ROUTES\Northrail, and find a file called installme.bat - you need to double click this file to run it (note: If your anti spyware now pops up then grant the script permission to run, some packages such as MS AntiSpyware are paranoid about .BAT files). You should see lots of entries like "1 file(s) copied", if you see anything like "0 file(s) copied" then the default routes may not be present. Next, double click on ytracks.zip and extract its contents in to another different temporary folder. You should have: readme.txt That's it - a little (well, large :) ) piece of New Zealand is now on your Train Sim, go and explore. The route comes with four basic exploration activities that use default stock. There is also a superb stock and activity pack available for Northrail.
Once this big file is downloaded there are two ZIPs inside it that we need to install. NBNRStck.zip Extract this ZIP straight in to your TRAINSET folder, i.e. C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\TRAINS\TRAINSET. Before we're finished with the stock we need to move some sounds out, look for a new folder that was created during the extraction (in your TRAINSET folder) called To be put into the main Train Simulator folder - SOUND. Select all of the files in this folder and move them to the Train Sim sound folder, i.e. C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\SOUND. Following this you can then delete the folder you emptied (i.e. the one named To be put... etc. NBNRAct.zip Extract this ZIP in to a new, different temporary folder. For each activity supplied you'll find an APK file and for many you'll also find a DOC file. The DOC file will give you some information about the activity as well as hints etc. To install the activities simply double click on each one and the 'tsunpack' utility built in to MSTS will install it for you. You will need to double click on each APK file one at a time to install them. If you have any difficulties installing the activities you may want the tsunpack fix, which you can find here...
Once downloaded, simply double click the EXE file inside the ZIP to apply the fix and this should enable you to double click on APK files to install the activities. |
