Description : In the Late 1870s William Stroudley designed and had built two Singles ...one called Abergavenny and the other Grosvenor. They where really working prototypes for the G class of singles that was to follow. The G class Locos ended up in the form of Abergavenny rather than the bigger boilered Grosvenor (which continued to run for many years as unique although officially lumped in with the rest of the G's). The G class did much good work for a few decades until like most singles the weight of trains got too much. Apparently the Axe fell on Abergavenny when pulling a train with the then big chief...Earle Marsh... and it was late because it was very wet and the wheels kept slipping.
