Description : D848 Sultan BR Class 43. Re-Skin of Mark Shipman’s excellent Warships. These were built by the North British Locomotive company,who had built the original Warships D600-604.Those had been overweight and under powered. Swindon allowed the private company,which was struggling to survive, to use their newer stressed skin lighter design. However the locos were still fitted with the same NBL/MAN diesel engines but uprated slightly. They continued to be troublesome throughout their lives. Class 43 were more often used on slower freight duties. They were some of the first to be withdrawn.
