Description:There can hardly be anybody with an interest in narrow gauge railways who doesn't know about the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and its famous class B 0-4-0 tank engines, and now - thanks to Adrian Shooter, you can even see one in the UK. What fewer people know about is the class B's predecessor, which was the class A, likewise designed by Sharp Stewart. There were 8 of these, 2 built in 1881 and the other 6 in 1882 ( 4 of which were subcontracted to the Hunslet Engine Company in Leeds). They were built as pure well tanks, but were rapidly adapted to look like a smaller version of the familiar class B, with the short saddle tank behind the chimney and coal bunker extended forward and over the boiler. The class B of 1889 was developed from this modified design and has run the line for nearly 120 years. The class As began to be withdrawn in the 1890s, but one managed to survive until 1954.

The model represents one of the 1882 Hunslet built engines, though with the worksplates that Sharp Stewart substituted for Hunslet's and is in pristine,as delivered condition.

As narrow gauge routes are made in 2 scales, “x2” and “truescale”, the model is done in both, the x2 part of the filename is the giveaway. Light engine consists for both scales are included.

The models are set up to use my generic cab views which can be downloaded from UK TrainSim (ref 16429), though there is nothing to stop you changing it to use the Scotsman.
