About
-----
IMPORTANT :- This model has been built to true scale NG standards It represents rolling stock built to about 2 foot gauge (60cm). It will run with standard gauge stock etc but will look very odd.
In 1916 the War Department realised that the road network in France was simply not fit to handle the increasing amount of mechanised traffice required to feed the growing needs of the mechanised British Expeditionary Force.
Light railways were the obvious solution, and to meet the immediate needs of the railways, this design was already in production for industry, and the WD bought several examples for use on the WD Light Railways. A very similar design was bought from Andrew Barclay.
Ironically, the original design was manufactured under licence from Orenstein & Koppel, a German firm.
Powerful for their size, these locos had short legs owing to limited coal and water capacity, and quickly found themselves relegated to shunting yards as larger locos entered service. Several examples were used by the Australian Light Railway Operating Companies, and this is my memorial to those troops. The model was started on April 26th, 2003.
You will need to create a consist before this train will appear in the simulator.
The prototypes would have been fitted with a simple tow or chain coupling - this translates as a bar coupler in MSTS, so I have fitted a group standard UKNG coupler. Similarly, the eng file includes a vacuum brake so you can run passenger trains - in real life this would not have been fitted.
As usual, there's still way too much smoke being generated. If I manage to fix it, I'll upload a patch file. |
